How to Make Your Own Frozen Yogurt

I’m fussy. Especially when it comes to fruits and veggies. Seldom do I find a pre-made option that suits my tastes, particularly when it comes to yogurt, and frozen yogurt. Believe it or not, frozen yogurt is easy enough to make at home and all it takes is three easy steps: 1: Pick your yogurt [...]

Address Thy Haggis!

It’s January 25. Robert Burns’ day. Scots (and those of Scottish heritage) the world over will celebrate the great poet’s birthday this week by holding a Burns Supper. It’s typically an affair of much pomp and circumstance and although Burns maintained it should be a celebration of internationalism and universal brotherhood, kilts and tartan all [...]

The Fungus Among Us

The Winnipeg Leisure Guide had a number of wonderful foodie education opportunities in the spring/summer edition, among them, Fungus Among Us. Gusto controversy over blown, blown over

Talk about wood-fired Pizzeria Gusto’s state of the art wood-fired oven remained cold for more than a week, following the firing of head chef Scott Bagshaw last weekend. Pizza doh! Celebrate food…from field to table

The Dietitians of Canada couldn’t have picked a better slogan for Nutrition Month (March)–Celebrate food…from field to table. It strikes a chord, particularly now as the sun begins to shine strong enough to melt snow, teasing us with glimpses of the earth, turning thoughts to gardens and growth. The 2010 Nutrition Month challenges Canadians to [...]

The first cut is the deepest

Knife sharpening demo at d.a. Niels proves deadly dull. When I learned kitchen supply outfitter d.a. Niels was hosting a series of live demonstrations at their 485 Berry Street store February through March I couldn’t wait to get down there. My eagerness was only bolstered by Destination Winnipeg’s extensive, almost exhausting, 3-part account of Bistro [...]

The Fort Whyte forager

I was delighted to see a good friend of mine, Barret Miller, featured in this weekend’s Winnipeg Free Press.  A fellow foodie and nature lover, Barret has spent the last couple years working as a special programs interpreter at FortWhyte Alive, an absolutely amazing environmental education centre right here in city limits. (It’s also home [...]
